Not That Scared!

I read this Somewhere, Long Ago and I thought it was funny at th time. Looking at it now, maybe it isn’t that funny when you think about it!

One Day an old Man came into A sleazy bar and sat down, by chance near the pool tables. There were four young men who looked like they are in their twenties, and they were shooting pool and making a lot of noise. They were wearing the customary leather motorcycle club jackets and they were obviously very drunk.

The bartender came over to the old man and told him; Sir, these boys are trouble-makers and I recommend that you move down to the other end of the bar.The old man looked over at the drunker men, and then he turned back to the bartender and said; Thank You young man, but I’m comfortable right here. The bartender just shook his head and walked away, leaving the old man to whatever Fate had in store for him.

But, as luck would have it, one of the drunken men saw the bartender talking to the old man and after whispering to his buddies, they all dropped their pool cues on the table and then they walked over and surrounded the old man.

The shortest one said; So old man, you and the bartender got a problem with us shooting pool and enjoying a few beers?

With this, he reached over and flipped the hat on the old man’s head, off and across the bar. The old man slowly turned to look into the eyes of the young punk and as he did so, the punk opened his jacket showing off a very large Bowie style knife holstered on his waist.

A this point the punk sneered at the old man and told him; In fact, I think I’ll just cut your old ass up a little, just for entertainment. The old man kept his eyes locked on those of the young punk as he reached down and gripped the handle of the knife.

At the same time, the old man reached into is jacket and pulled out a sweet little nine millimeter pistol and laid it onto the bar next to his beer. Then he smiled at the surprised punk. The punk started to pull his knie when one of his buddies reached over and stopped him. Then this second biker turned to the old man and asked him;

Are you crazy? My buddy here is ready to cut you up. And I can guarantee you one thing, If I let go of his arm, he’ll mess you up real bad. The old man glanced into the mirror behind the bar and saw that all four of the bikers were smiling to each other, but he just reached for his beer and took a long draft of it.

He saw that the bartender was holding a baseball bat and trying to sneak down the bar to where they were all standing. The silence grew longer and the older biker asked the old man;

Aren’t you scared that we will kill you where you sit?

The old man looked at the four punks as they waited for him to cower in fear and beg for his life. INstead he slowly laid his hand on the grip of his pistol and told the three punks; Well boys, I am 79 years old, and a life sentence for killing you four is not nearly as scary to me as it should be for any of you that survive what is about to happen.

When he finished talking, the smiles fell from the four punks lips and all of their eyes went to the pistol lying next to the half finished beer. Two of them took a couple of steps back and away from the old man. The one with the knife had a look on his face that said he was just a blowhard, and the third man?

Well, he slowly let go of the other punks arm, and talking loudly, to no one in particular, he said with a nervous tick in his voice; OK Boys, were late, so let’s give this gentleman some roon to enjoy his beer.

As they walked towards the door, one of the punks yelled back to the old man; Army?

The old man never took his eyes off of the mirror and responded; No, Marines!

The four punks picked up their pace and were quickly gone from the bar. The old man put his pistol away inside his jacket, and took a long sip of his beer, while the bartender walked over and drew another draft for the old man.

He set the beer down in form of him and asked the old man; Dude, How did you know they would back off like that?

The old man smiled at the bartender and said; Punks like those usually run in packs and generally speaking if you show them your teeth they will back off. The bartender laughed and said; Yeah, but what if they still come at you?

The old man started on his second beer and laughed out loud saying; I wasn’t lying; I’m 79 years old, I have lung cancer, and I’m really not worried about any kind of prison sentence the justice system may give me.

The Moral Here?

FEAR RIDES ON TOP OF HOPE!

So, NEVER MESS WITH A MAN WITHOUT HOPE!

DON’s WORLD – Who Are We FLORIDIANS?

DON’s World – 200710 – WHO ARE WE in FLORIDA

Florida is an interesting State and as everyone knows it is a favorite spot for retired people to move to and enjoy the latter years of their lives. Of course we also have an image of being a state that is nothing but Beaches, Swimming Pools and Tiki Bars.

One reality that many people, not familiar with, this semi-tropical state is the fact that over 25% of the state’s population is Hispanic speaking according to the most recent Census. I’ve been living here for over ten years now myself and even I can see a slow change in the cultural lifestyle as these hard working people grow and participate in our government as American citizens.

Here is a link to my article that discusses the latest census data and what I have personally observed of how our nation has changed many things to aid all of the ethnic groups who are migrating here.

DON’s World – 200702 – TANSTAAFL

Somehow the racial injustice we all witnessed when the policemen in Minneapolis slowly took the breath away from a Black man named George Floyd sparked has sparked a worldwide reaction. But after several weeks the, at first, peaceful days of protest quickly turned into weeks of rioting and rampant destruction of public property.

Here is a link to my article that discusses how thee riots are actually harming the cause of the Blacks. my thought is that once a point has been made to the existing government, the next step should be negotiations for improvements, and not continual day-after-day destruction and chaos.Chaos breeds over-reaction, at some point, and not understanding and growth.

Why is it? Flowers and Palms

I was just wondering!

Why is it that;

When a flower dies, we cast it aside.

But when a Palm Frond dies we make a roof of it?

This is one of those things I often wonder about.

My Best Cheeseburger! Ever!

Go Back in Time.

Go Back in Time to the days when you stopped at a roadhouse restaurant rather than a fast food chain outlet for a meal.
Do you remember Your Best Cheeseburger, Ever?
OK, that question, by itself, should have brought a smile to your face, and sent your brain scrambling back through your personal memory bank to one great time or another in your life.

All I Need is a Glass of Wine and a Breeze

Busy! Busy! Busy! We’re all so darned Busy!

Or so it seems some days. I’m not talking about a person’s job, nine-to-five or whatever hours they are dedicating to making a living and paying the bills we all end up with.

No, I’m talking about how some of us seem to fill any idle time we may have with things that end up keeping us Busy to the point that the only real rest we get is when we drop into our beds each night, exhausted.

You see, what a lot of people don’t realize is that even such, what we call “fun things” like; charity work, or crafts, or sports and exercise, or whatever we commit our free time to, can stress and exhaust our bodies and even our minds if we are not careful.

The old saying for everyone to “Stop and Smell the Roses” has been around for ages, but it’s telling us that we all need to take the time and relax our minds at one time or another.

I know that these special moments of relaxation are so necessary for me to keep my mind on a level plane.

And as I grow older, I make sure that I take these special moments more often and that I do something that cannot in any way be construed as work.

One of my favorite ways to relax is to pour myself a glass of Wine and go outside my home. There, I take a chair in the shade of a large tree and then I do two things;

I sip on my glass of Wine and I just gaze around my yard and watch the trees as the winds blow through and move the tree limbs and leaves around.

At times, it seems to me that these movements resemble what a dancer might be doing while alone on a stage.

A Gust of wind will bend a leaf covered limb and it will submit and bend in one direction, and when this Wind has passed, the limb returns to its original position, seemingly waiting for another random gust of Wind to force them to dance, one more time.

Eventually, what I have watched will have cleared my mind to the degree that I am truly enjoying these simple and natural things nature is giving me.

And I find that my Heart is full and my mind has been cleared of all of those leftover toxic things that seem to stay there for far too long.

And Yes, Sometimes, all I need is a Glass of Wind and a Breeze!

Man in a Box – 1 – Just an Old Man who doesn’t fit any mold.

MAN in a BOX – 1 – Commentary from an aged perspective.

First of all, let me say this; I am not a Conservative, nor am I a Liberal, and I damned well have not committed to any political party …. so far!

But each day, as I drink my morning Coffee and watch the news channels, I am finding myself wanting to occasionally express my opinions on some the things that I see happening in this great nation of ours.

When you see my tattered flag at the header of one of my commentaries then please read it, or  Not!

It really is your choice, but perhaps you could at least glance at what I have to say. You just might agree with some of my opinions and maybe, just maybe you may even see an opinion that you don’t agree with, but at the same time you just may understand a different perspective.

An OLD MAN IN A BOX and his TATTERED FLAG

I selected the picture you see because I can relate to this tattered old flag.  I can definitely relate to it’s condition in that I too have been around for a while, almost three-quarters of a century of voting and watching the state of our nation as it changes.

You see, I too am a little tattered around the edges but I am a survivor with many experiences and scars of my own.

So, I ask you to Follow Me, and maybe even Comment back to me with your own perspective on what I write.

Things to Ponder today?

I am a Ponderer! OK, it may not be a real word, and even I know it’s will never make it as a popular vocation.

But, I’m a ponderer and I do ponder things. OFTEN!

Here is what happened to my Ponder List for today;

1- Watch the political news?    Decision? No, too phony and too depressing.

2- Read the newspaper? Decision? No, its just a dated version of what’s on the TV.

3- Write a Poem about the weather here in Florida to aggravate my northern friends? Decision? Hell NO, It’s actually COLD here today. 58F. Brrrrrrrrrr!

4- Take a walk? Decision? What the hell! It might be a little cool but I can just take it easy and burn off a few calories while I stare at the cloud formations. I love cloud formations!

Have a good Day, yourselves.

Antagonish – please go away!

I was watching a British detective story yesterday when the detective quoted a couple of lines of Rhyme that intrigued me.
But, for hours after that, and even into my sleep that night, the words kept running around in my head,
and now I wish they would go away (sic)!

Anyway, here’s a copy of the poem by William Hughes Mearns;

Yesterday upon the stair
I met a man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
I wish, I wish he’d go away

When I came home last night at three
The man was waiting there for me
But when I looked around the hall
I couldn’t see him there at all!

Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more!
Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door

Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
Oh, how I wish he’d go away.
