Thing you think about in the KEYS on the last day of MAY

I’m just doing a little “free-association” writing here.

Here are some of the things you think about when you are living in the Florida Keys when you realize it’s the last day of May and Summer is really here;

This the first day of the Hurricane Season, so for some reason, whenever the news people say there is a storm coming, those horrific news photos of Hurricanes striking land pop into your mind.

To my fellow Veterans!

Memorial Day does strange things to my emotions.

I spend most of the day on an emotional roller-coaster. I feel sad one moment and just a minute later I am one proud SOB.

It’s the memories, you see!

Blood Pressure versus Coffee

I have high Blood Pressure!

It’s just a fact of life for me.

Even if I were able to isolate myself from the growing number of idiots who dominate the news networks, and even if the government lowered my taxes and started making all of the free-loaders in our country get jobs and pay their own way, I would still be one of those people with High Blood Pressure.

So, I have dutifully taken my prescribed pills each day so that my whole body gets pulled down into a slower pace.

And that’s OK, too.

But, I do cheat.

Every morning I drink Coffee. I mean I drink real coffee, not some chemically altered concoction they call decaffeinated.

Sure, I know I’m not supposed to do things that will raise my blood pressure, but I am addicted to Coffee. And, I have found that if I take my required dosage of meds, and then drink my morning coffee, my brain can absorb and react to what I see on the news for a couple of hours before my meds pull me down again.

This works for me; taking my meds to protect myself from the side effects of high blood pressure, and then once I am out and about, letting my meds kick in and  level my attitude out, a bit.

My Doctors tell me that; “at your age, you need to be reasonable about how much Coffee you drink”, so I do.

I’m down to only one pot of Coffee, each morning!

Yes, I am an ASSHOLE! But, I’m not a perfect one.

I just have to write a little something about this.

If my article title offends anyone, I apologize ahead of time, before I go on.

A Floridian’s Winter perspective

Cool Title, Huh?

Well, I thought so. A long time ago, in a land far, far, away, one of my English Teachers told me that if I wanted someone to read my writings, I had to grab their attention with the title, pull them into my story with the first sentence or paragraph and then the story itself should keep them “enthralled”.

So, here I go.

It’s only January the 8th, but today is the coldest weather we have had down here in SouthWest Florida this winter, so I feel this situation itself deserves some kind of comment.

Another New Year? Hell, I wasn’t through with the last one, yet!

Here we go again!

Another year has started on the clock of life, and I’m still working on things I had to do last year.

I mean, really! I looked back at my last January first’s resolutions, and it’s kind of embarrassing, how little I got done.

I stopped talking about Writing!

I did! Well, for the most part anyway!

It was a very painful thing for me, but I have finally done it!

I stopped talking about writing.

You see, it took me a while, but I began to notice that non-writers would go into a kind of bored trance whenever you mention anything about what you are writing.

It doesn’t matter what you start talking about, whether it’s; a new plot you are working on, or a cool character you are developing, or even a fantastic scene you have placed your characters in as part a story you’re hoping to publish.

They just don’t care, these non-writing masses we are surrounded by each day when we go out and mix with people. Once I had realized this, I decided that they were beneath me and I stopped talking to them about my writing.

And OMG, my fellow writers?

They are all so engrossed in their writings that it quickly became obvious they all believed their works are far more interesting than mine.

Such Arrogance!

Christmas Thoughts of a Family Elder

Here it is, Christmas Eve, and I just wanted to say something POSITIVE to my family, friends and even those of you who don’t know me.

First of all, I will now be calling myself a family elder. I like the title, it has a nice ring to it, so I have adopted it. You might ask; just how does one become a family elder in this fast-paced world we live in today?

Stupidity doesn’t age well

As I grow older,

I have found that

Stupidity doesn’t age well.

It seems, the majority of the really stupid people

in my life

have now died off to an acceptable level.

A Veteran’s Answer

It’s Veteran’s Day and I have already spent a good deal of my day going to a few celebrations that pop up on this day, around the country.

A Facebook comment a few minutes ago prompted me to write this as I tried to explain that what we, of my generation felt when we went into the service.

Looking Back, I can say that, to me and so many of my generation who did serve in the military, it wasn’t a task.

Many of our parents had served themselves, and to us it was simply a thing you did because you were taught that it was the right thing to do.

You just stood up and walked over to your fellow Americans who had also taken a stand, and together you formed a line; a line where you were not going to allow anyone to cross that might want to hurt or destroy our American Liberties!

It was just a gut response, but I hope it helps others who might wonder what makes a person join a branch of our military.

You don’t know me, I’m one of those who voted for Trump

Yeah, here I am, one of those Average Americans that came out of the woodwork to vote for Trump. (Or, was it to vote against Clinton?).

Anyway, I was up late, watching this very important election and finally the results turned and started going in Trump’s direction, and I must say, the consternation and shock on the faces of the whole world of journalists was, honestly, entertaining.

I got to watch the final end of the thousands of repeated and twisted ads fired at Trump and his supporters.

Anyway, i wrote a pretty good article where I attempted to explain to these opinionated news-mongers, just who I am. I am, simply put, a veteran and a common man who worked his whole life without any superlatives that the liberal press would be interested in exploring.

Me? I am just an Average American, who was finally able to symbolically  “spit in the face” of those who have ignored the plight of us, the Average American over the past decade.

News Media and the standard BS

I was just wondering.

You see, today I was watching a news network on my TV, you know which one.

It’s the one with over 75% (which seems like 90% after all these months) of their 24-hour coverage being about the Republican candidate for president and what he slips up and said to people 10, 20 and more years ago.

In most states, some of these things they beat to death are older than the statutes of limitations on such crimes as Murder, Rape, Assault, and other true criminal abuses.

But thes disconnected fools go on and on, filling their air time with digital nothings that in a few week will not even rate being stored for posterity.

So, today I made a point of switching back to this network at least hourly all day long and into the evening.

The News Media and a Jaded America.

Here’s my question. Jus How the Hell did we get to this place where we, the American Public, became so Jaded.

We trust no one! NO ONE!

Accept it, you’re just like me, we don’t believe anything that anyone says, especially the media, or as a result of the twisted news shows, even a Presidential Candidate.

The major media machines have spent so much of their resources  attempting to debunk every word from every candidate, as well as everyone who supports them that we, the people, scoff at everything we see on our TV or Smartphone.

Congratulations CNN, etal, you have done it. You have taken investigative journalism from true journalism, right through common sense commentary all the way over to the point of “giant Killer”. I’m not just picking on you CNN, I did say etal. Perhaps you should look it up.

Admit it, you really don’t care about the truth anymore, only the sensational ound-bite.

Come on, you prove it every day, YOU DON’T CARE!

You know, I remember the day when, in a newspaper or magazine, if a person’s words were quoted they were captured within two quote marks, and looked at by the world as being sacrosanct.

And, if parts of the quote were ever eliminated, there was this little string of dots “…..” that signified a part of the quote was left out.

Today, in our world of instant video presentations, I guess the media doesn’t know how to verbally insert those little dots.

They once meant so much to any educated reader. They said that this is only a piece of the original words, and we have shortened it here, for one reason or another.

Now though, a politician or a supporter can go to a small town for a meeting with voters, and talk for an hour or so.

But in this world of ours today, the media can set up a camera and record the whole conversation and then instantly scan it for a collection of words spoken that they can then present to America.

Typically, the presented words were taken totally out of context and reassembled to present to us, the public, simply “for affect”.

In other words, they do not reflect the actual meaning of that hour of back and forth talks with numerous questions and answers, but rather they are reassembled (or used for “sound bites”) that can then be used to “attack” the candidate.

Oh, and of course, this happens to both presidential candidates. Any slip of the tongue is fodder for a “news flash” across the TV screens of Americans.

In my opinion, it’s really a form of “truth rape” and we, the public have become so used to it, so jaded by it, that we just shrug our shoulders at pretty much anything the news media says to us anymore.

So, I watch as any honest but loose-lipped candidates sit with me, on the sidelines, watching this new form if entertainment. Should in the vein of the old game shows of the fifties and sixties, should I call it “Dare to tell the Truth” entertainment?

Jaded but still watching,

Presidential Primary Process, entertainment for the masses?

I don’t know if this is going to be one of my rants or not, so here goes.

You all know that we are a number of months into the craziest and strangest presidential primary process ever seen in the history of American Politics.

If you don’t know what’s going on right now then you truly qualify as being “OFF THE GRID”.In fact you have to be so far off the Grid that I wonder why I’m thinking about you at all. You obviously do not receive any communications, at all from the rest of the country.
