My wife and I were out on one of our (sometimes daily) walks, around our community and there he (it?) was, a turtle in the middle of the street.
He was a 15-16-inch-long example of one of our lake turtles that we see all over Florida. Its back was scarred and had a coating of what looked like a grayish moss 0r mold growing on it. Its head was extended and its legs were doing everything they could to get across that expanse of asphalt.

I was in a conversation a few days ago and someone asked me which pepper was hotter than another.
There is a definitive comparison chart available called the Scoville Rating which lists hot peppers from around the world in comparative BTU strengths.
I remembered that I had written a post a while back about this and I grabbed my smartphone and after a few clicks there was my Post.
For those of you that might wonder about this little tidbit of useless information, click on the link below to see my other post.
Scoville Ratings for Hot Peppers

I have to say it!
I live in Florida, dammit! And when I’m not bathed in sunshine every day, I start to worry.
It’s why we all live here, on this long finger of land, really. Oh, you can come up with any of a long list of the advantages of living in Florida, but in reality, we’re here for the Sunshine.
We worked for decades, in cold weather, in office buildings, in factories, always IN somewhere, saving our money for the chance to get the Heck away from the crappy weather further North.
OK, OK, there are a certain number of you that act like you enjoy sliding, out of control, down a snow and ice covered mountainside.

Well, here I go again.
If you are someone who lives in the modern world, you are aware of the latest catastrophic killing spree by someone.
It doesn’t matter if they are from this country or from another, really.
I mean, everyone has to come from somewhere, right?
The perpetrator’s religion or political affiliation is just a sidebar to the fact that when someone does such atrocious things to another human being, it is beyond comprehension to a “normal” person.

After finishing my half-a-pot of morning coffee, and watching three different networks spout their morning drivel, I can summarize the state of the world as;
This is an old phrase, that I first heard when I was in the NAVY.
It was and I assume is still used by people in the military to describe how things were going in their unit or just the military in general.
You see, when you go into the military, you soon learn that a lot of the decisions someone made and passed down to you for implementation, just don’t make much sense.
Of course, later, working in the corporate world, it turned out to be the same.
Stupid decisions being made by the unknowing that affected those that worked for them.

That’s right. This article is about all of the stupid people in the world.
Someone has to warn the “not-so-stupid” population about all of the ones around us who literally have no clue about the realities of life and those once popular and important practices known as;
Let me warn you, ahead of time, this is a Rant.
So, I can say whatever I want on the subject mentioned.
Enjoy my rant, or just turn the page if you are offended, in some way.

I remember, decades ago, when they carted this old guy out on national news for his unique hobby.
He was obviously a simple farmer who was very uncomfortable with all of the attention he was getting.
What this man had done was simple and elegant.
He had a problem; He had worn his body out working on his farm his whole life and now he needed more money so he and his wife could have a better lifestyle.
He looked around, and all he had as resources was his farm itself and whatever was on this piece of land.

Yeah, I watched the great CNN managed (prejudiced?) Republican debate on TV.
And, honestly? I loved it.
You might wonder why I, an avowed Independent voter my whole life, would spend several hours of his time watching such a circus.
By independent, I mean, although I have voted religiously, in every election, I have never voted FOR anyone, sad to say.
Rather, I have always been forced to vote AGAINST the worst of the two candidates available to me.
Well, I watched this circus because, I got to see the Republican candidates dancing on their “PAC-puppet” strings, almost in fear it seemed at times, over what a big-mouth rich man might say about, or to, them.
I love it that the news journalists on all of the major networks, are stirring in their own indignant juices over this Donald Trump and his frank and sometimes troubling opinions.
And I love that they keep asking; Why do so many people like him?
Continue reading “TRUMP? What an Ass! But, right now he’s my favorite Ass!”
That’s my question, as I sit here, sipping on my morning coffee, typing this as I half-listen to the TV.
Normally, during the day when we are home, my wife and I, like so many of you, just turn our TV to one of the news networks and then we pretty much ignore it for the rest of the day.

I just have to write this.
Over the past few years, our Congressional representatives have slipped into their jobs, like rats slipping onto a ship. And once there, they “peel off their false robes” that showed them as patrons of the people, and shown their true colors.

My article on the tax reality that I ran into after my first year of retirement.
I am a Baby Boomer, and my whole generation was told to put everything into tax-deferred savings.
The justification to us was that we would be in a lower tax bracket and would pay lower taxes.
Bit two things occurred that have been devastating to so many of my generation.
First, the Income tax system was stripped and rebuilt by Congress over the past couple of decades to where we Seniors, along with the lower middle-class of America are bearing the brunt of our countries tax load.
Second, The CPI index system was changed by Congress to where it is a false indicator of the true costs of living in America, and our Medical Insurance and care system costs have grown astronomically.
These things have made being a retiree a costly and dangerous lifestyle.

Tax Reality for my first year of Retirement

Someone ( a close friend from long ago, actually) called me a sponge; an ugly one but still a sponge.
He went on to say that I kept picking up bits of information about so many different things that he never knew what I was going to say or talk about next.
And, if I am going to be honest, he was and still is right. I love to learn about new things (to me) and old things (that still work) and I consider what I learn as my own personal “Pearls of Wisdom”.
Many years ago (too many to count, honestly) I was into studying different Oriental and Asian ways of life, religions and what seemed to me to be, idiosyncrasies.
Long story short. I got into the whole Yin and Yang thing and this ancient philosophy of maintaining a healthy body and even healing an unhealthy one for a while.
That was a long time ago, and I have kept this kind of information in my mind always. But, just the other day, I read an article written by a fellow HubPage writer, on this subject, that I think should be shared.
So, click on the link below to open page to read this very good article, if you are interested.

Yeah, I called it Crap!
Walk up to pretty much any vending machine and look at what they offer you.

OK, Yoga is Cool.
And, I really can see how it can help a person keep their body in better condition.
Here’s my problem.
I took a couple of Yoga classes two years ago. The instructor said up front that it was designed for beginners and we would be Ok taking the class.
Well, after the second class, I was on my back, on the sofa, for over a week. My back hurt so bad, in fact, that I never went back for another class in yoga.
But, there is still hope for me and Yoga, I think.
I just read this article on HubPages by a fellow writer and it has really made me think. In fact, I printed the article and I am going to use these exercises, myself.
You see, the article lists seven different Yoga exercises that a person can do while standing on their feet.
This, I can do. Oh, I may not be able to reach down or out as far as they show in the pictures, but i can do these exercises.
Click on the link below and read the article for yourself, especially if you are another limping and worn out Senior like myself.

Just a note to you gardeners out there.
Right now is the beginning of the time for you to plant your tomato seedlings for your garden.
Basically, most people will plant their seedlings inside using the last couple of year’s final frost date as a reference for when to transplant them into the garden.
So, get ready for Spring by taking care of this little chore soon.
